Charles S. Pierce: From Pragmatism to Pragmaticism
Apel's interpretation of Peirce was a major force in turning the interest of Continental philosophers in the 1960s and 1970s toward American pragmatism, and it also laid the groundwork for the reception of James, Mead and Dewey. In addition, it served as the theoretical basis for Apel's own work, found mostly in Transformation der Philosophie. This last work has greatly influenced discussion in the so-called critical theory school.
