The Sermon on the Mount has long been seen from both within and outside Christianity as the most important presentation of Jesus teaching, and the Lord's Prayer contained in it is the common prayer of all Christians. Yet the Sermon itself id found as a unity only in Matthew's gospel, and its precise meaning and its practicability have been debated centuries. Fr Hendrickx takes account of modern biblical scholarship in his treatment of the Sermon,but in way accessible to the general reader. Section by section, he elucidates the text, its original significance and its relevance today.
