Perspective, Journal of Religion and Culture wants to ensure that all authors are careful and adhere to international standards for academic integrity, especially on the issue of plagiarism.
Plagiarism occurs when an author takes ideas, information, or words from another source without giving proper credit to the source. Even if it happens unintentionally, plagiarism is still a serious academic offence and is not acceptable in international academic publications.
When an author takes an idea from another author, citation is still required even if the author then develops the idea further. The idea could be an idea about how to interpret the data, both the methodology used and the conclusions drawn. It could also be an idea about broad developments in a field or general information. Whatever the idea, the writer must cite the source. In cases where the writer develops the idea further, it is still necessary to cite the original source of the idea, and then in the next sentence, the writer can explain his or her more developed idea.
When the writer takes words from another writer, citations and quotation marks are required. Whenever four or more consecutive words are identical to a source the writer has read, the writer must use quotation marks to indicate the use of original words from another writer; mere quotation is not enough.
Perspektif, Journal of Religion and Culture takes academic integrity very seriously, and the editors reserve the right not to accept manuscripts found to violate the standards set out above. For further information, prospective authors may contact the editorial office.
